How to Sync Wirelessly at an External Wireless Network?

Answer: For companies on-the-go, it’s common to have their Solid Route Accounting business system and the office accounting system installed on a laptop computer which is carried around as the owner creates orders and invoices themselves. For routes that take days or even weeks to complete though, they have a need to sync their invoices from the handheld computer back into Solid Route Accounting to keep the transactions safe, and keep Solid Sales Pro functional and up to date. Thankfully, most hotels, motels, restaurants, and coffee houses across North America are now offering free Wi-Fi Wireless Internet to their patrons, making it easy to continue to sync wireless enabled handheld computers via these Wi-Fi hot spots.

This setup is an easy three step process:

  1. Connect the handheld computer to a wireless network within range.

For Palm OS handheld computers, for assistance with this step, please follow the instructions in Article#116: Palm OS Wi-Fi Local and External Sync Setup Guide under ‘4. Connecting to Wi-Fi Wireless Networks’.

  2. Connect the laptop computer to the same network that the handheld computer is connected to. This can be by Wi-Fi or Ethernet Cable.

  3. Verify that the Local IP Address of the laptop matches that of the ‘Primary PC Address’ on the handheld computer.

For Palm OS handheld computers, for assistance with this step, please follow the instructions in Article#116: Palm OS Wi-Fi Local and External Sync Setup Guide, steps 1 – 6 under ‘2. TCP/IP HotSync Configuration on a Handheld Computer’.

The handheld computer is now ready to sync to the laptop computer. Ensure that Solid MultiConnect is open on the laptop computer with a TCP connection listed under ‘Current Connections’ as ‘Listening on port TCP 14238’, and sync the handheld computer.
