Need Help...?
Software developers pride themselves on delivering timely and trouble free software. However, no matter how much they try to minimize problems, it has to be kept in mind that we are still dealing with computer systems. In the event that a system or program problem occurs, there are important steps that you can take to resolve or "trouble-shoot" the problem.
User Manual
User Manuals are an important source of information. Sometimes a problem may just be a lack of understanding how the program is designed to work. Take a few minutes to locate your topic in the user manual to see if there might be specific parameters or configuration settings that would produce the results you are looking for.
Many user manuals have appendices or chapters geared specifically for the purpose of resolving problems. These sections are often labeled "Trouble Shooting" or "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)" and are a valuable resource for common problems.
Internet
The Internet is a valuable source of information. These days, most software vendors have web sites that contain technical support and FAQ pages. The plus side to this type of information is that it can be easily kept up to date with the latest information and is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Tech Support
When all other resources fail to resolve your problem, a quick call to
technical support will likely have you up and running. When passing along
your problem to technical support, there is information that is commonly
asked for and that you should have ready when you call:
1) Version Number
- As new features are added and reported problems are corrected, software developers release new program 'versions'. With this in mind, it is important that you have the version number recorded when you contact technical support. You will very likely be asked for this information.
