Sales: You Need To Be Selling Every Day
by Jeffrey Mayer
The lifeblood of a business is new customers, and if you're not actively looking for them day-in and day-out, your sales and profits will flatten out... at best.
Whether you realize it, or not, you're in the sales business. You're selling ideas. You're selling concepts. You're selling yourself. You should be selling every day!
Here are six things you should be doing every day to grow your business:
1. Schedule Telephone Time: Block out time on your calendar - every day - to call people to see if they've a need for your product or service. It's easy to make sales calls when you've nothing going on. But you must be disciplined to continue looking for new business even when your calendar's full.
The people you meet today will be your customers, 30, 60, or 90 days from now.
2. Call New People: Call people you've never spoken to before. Fresh leads keep you on our toes and are stimulating and exciting. Look for new opportunities. Look for new markets. Be creative in your prospecting.
3. Keep In Touch With Your Best Customers: Call your best customers frequently. Do everything you can to make them happy. Schedule regular follow-up calls in your contact manager. Provide fabulous service so they'll want to give you 100 percent of their business.
4. Network: Attend business luncheons, meetings, conferences, conventions & any other event where you can meet people who 'should' be doing business with you. Give yourself the opportunity to meet new people.
Prospect! Prospect! Prospect!

5. Clean Up Your Database: Get rid of the dead weight. As you work your database analyze your results. At some point, you should decide that it's time to find a better prospect. I've found that it's real depressing to call the same people over and over, but they never buy. (What about you?) Instead, look for new people. It's more exciting, stimulating, and fun.
6. Leverage Your Time: Don't allow yourself to get distracted. Stay focused. Do the things that will make you successful. Stop doing things that keep you busy and waste your time.
Your job is to sell yourself, your company, and your products every day. Your job is to look for new customers every day. Your job is to keep your existing customers happy, so they want to do business with you, every day.
Make this your mission, and you'll be more successful than you ever dreamed.
