What is "Data" Insurance?
When you start up a business, what is one of the first things you do? One answer is probably consider what you require for insurance. There is business insurance, property insurance, vehicle insurance, even employee benefit insurance to assist you with possible loss of wages due to illness. But what about "Data" Insurance?
A large percentage of most businesses expenses can be attributed to wages and salaries of your employees. If you stop to consider where you record the work that your employees perform for you, you should not have to look too much further than your day to day computerized data.
- Sales reps are creating sales transactions and finding new customers.
- Warehouse staff are creating purchase order transactions as well as receiving and distributing valuable inventory tracking information.
- Administrative staff are performing daily accounting operations and generating valuable progress reports.
All of these tasks are building on, fine tuning and reporting on your computerized data. In some respects, your data is a representation and record of the time and money you are investing in your employees.
How do you insure this? Well, we have only one word for you... "Backup"!
Daily backups are really the ONLY way you can ensure that one of your largest business investments is kept safe and secure. Storing your backup disks offsite or in a fire proof safe is also a good step to take.
Most computer systems come with CD or DVD burners these days. For this, you have property insurance. The cost for "Data Insurance" now becomes as little as purchasing a supply of blank CD or DVD disks... a minimal investment considering the risk you take by not performing daily backups of your data.
