Different companies need different mobile devices to suit their mobile order entry needs. That's why Si Sales Pro runs on numerous Palm® OS handhelds and prints to a wide assortment of mobile printers. When going mobile, you will require equipment for both the road and the office.

Office Computers - Local Settlement

Office Computers:

Offices with 1 to 5 workstations:

Operating System - Windows 2000, XP, 2003 (Windows 95,98,ME are not recommended)
RAM - Min 512 MB, 1 to 2 GB is recommended
Hard drive - min 2 GB free space
Battery backup on every work station
Backup System - DVD, CDR, Zip Drive or other removable drive are recommended

Communications & Settlement:

Local Settlement

Local settlement is used when handhelds return to the office at a convenient time to synchronize with the accounting system.

Direct Serial - using the Hot Sync cable direct to the office computer
Office Cradles - single and multi port TCP/IP (4 port cradle) are available

Specialized equipment is required on the road and it can vary depending on your business needs. There are several handheld and printer options. A list of tested devices is shown below. Three commonly used product combinations are available (see below for details):

Ruggedized printers and handhelds with barcode scanning and truck-mounted printing (recommended for DSD)
Ruggedized printers and handhelds with barcode scanning and portable printing (recommended for DSD)
Non-ruggedized PDAs without printers (recommended for pre-sell)

You may also need a hot sync cable, truck cradle, office cradle, or charging adapter.
For modem communications while away from home base, please add the Symbol single port modem cradle.

Symbol Truck Cradle - for ruggedized handhelds

This item includes a heavy duty 12 volt adapter with voltage regulator.
You may wish to ask for a printer cable (please specify the printer you intend to use).

PDAs:

Any Palm OS based unit running Palm OS v3.2r3 to v4.1.
Note: Most PDAs do not have barcode scanning.

Telephone/Modem Settlement:

By installing a modem in your office computer (external modems are the best choice) and giving remote staff a modem, settlement can be accomplished from remote locations. PDAs and Symbol devices require a separate modem purchase. Si Systems Integrators are available to help you. Si MultiConnect, a multi-line version of Si Connect, is available as an upgrade option.
